Tuesday Tips, Tricks and Time-Savers

Book Review: Super Stitches Crochet
by Jennifer Campbell and Ann-Marie Bakewell

(photo borrowed from barnesandnoble.com)

If you've ever wanted to learn to crochet, there are a few ways to go about doing it. Having someone teach you is certainly one way--you could ask a knowledgeable friend or sign up for a class. But in the absence of a good teacher, or if you're the type of person who learns well by doing for yourself, there are plenty of great resources out there to help you teach yourself. One book that I have found particularly helpful is this Super Stitches Crochet book. It is a very well written, well-illustrated book that begins with the very basics of crocheting and guides the reader through more than 150 varied stitch patterns, all with color photographs! Personally, I already knew a hand full of the basic stitches when I picked up this book, courtesy of my grandmother. But I was limited in what I could do because I didn't know how to read a pattern. Now, not only can I read a pattern, but I will be teaching a class on it this Thursday! I would recommend this fantastic book to anyone with an interest in crocheting, whether you're just starting out as a beginner or a seasoned crocheter looking to learn a few new tricks.

This book is normally something that we carry in the shop, but it's been so popular that it's flown off of the shelves faster than we can stock it! It should be available again sometime in the next week or so, but if you're interested, you could always just give us a call (DSN 430-5270) to see if it has made it back to the shelves yet.

We've wrapped up our Intro to Crocheting class, but we still have one spot left in the Intermediate class this Thursday, from 4-6pm. This class is intended for those people who already have a grasp of basic crocheting. We will be focused not on learning new stitches, but on how to read a pattern. If you are interested, stop by or give us a call to snag that last spot!

We're all about love today and we're loving this project! Lizy used one of the new MDF accordian albums from Kaiser Kraft, red acrylic paint, one sheet of gorgeouse filigree paper from the Chatterbox Artsy-licous line, pearl stickers from Mark Richards, and fun ribbons to make this standing "album." Of course some pictures of gorgeous little A (made by Jenny P and J) make this little project just perfect! All supplies available in the store, except the baby of course!

Luci's the name... printing's the game...

The Luci photo and scrapbooking kiosk is officially operational!!!! We now have all the paper and printers installed and you can print your photos or make fun scrapbooking pages, photo books, calendars, and greeting cards! The kiosk can also print your passport photos if you need them for your International Driver's license! You will need to bring a digital photo of yourself on a white background. The kiosk gives great directions for how it should look.
